Molly Karp is a Public Relations major in the Creative Communications program in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She sits on the Provincial Council of Women of Manitoba's Communications Committee where she designs and oversees new ways to promote issues that impact Manitoba women. With her education, she hopes to provide a voice for marginalized communities in Canada. Molly is a firm believer in the power of story and its ability to affect social change.
Molly was inspired to create Closeted Stories by her LGBT friends who only began to identify as gay or lesbian after they graduated from high school. Because of her own straight orientation, Molly was able to passively standby and watch some of her classmates get seriously bullied throughout junior high and high school. She believes that more work needs to be done on the part of the straight community to ensure that Manitoba schools are a safe and enjoyable place for everyone. Molly hopes that her project helps facilitate this change.
